Innaugural Trip to Grand County

Monday - Wednesday I took my first business trip to Grand County. The purpose of the trip was to meet some of the people of Grand County and get an idea of the water/drought information needs. We met with several water quality people, a couple of people from the Bureau of Land Management, someone from the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and two people from Winter Park.

After the meeting, Nolan drove me around Grand and Summit Counties, pointing out the different rivers, lakes, and reservoirs that make up the Colorado Big-Thompson Project. Basically, the project is about diverting water out of Grand County and to the Front Range.

I have posted pictures with these reservoirs into a photo album via Photobucket. Please feel free to look through the pictures!

My New Job

For those of you who have never done this, completely changing everything in your life all at once can be exciting, stressful, and depressing, all at the same time. August 1 marked the day of my new life. I left my job, home, and friends in Champaign, Illinois and trekked across I-70 back to my original home in Colorado.

After much moving of stuff, and getting my apartment into a semi-livable form, I began my new job on August 10. I have now worked a week with the Colorado Climate Center (located in Fort Collins, CO at CSU), with my newly appointed job title of PhD-student-slash-research-assistant-slash-drought-specialist. With the end of this week, and the beginning of many exciting adventures throughout the beautiful state of Colorado, I decided it would be good to archive and share some of my experiences.
